Justice League may be done filming, but that doesn’t mean Jason Momoa hasn’t been keeping busy.
Momoa, best known for playing Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and Aquaman in the new DC cinematic universe, now has a leading role as revolutionary Rico Rodriguez in the film adapation of the popular Square Enix video game Just Cause.
As die-hard fans of the franchise know, the Just Cause series follows Rico as he fights to overthrow the abusive dictatorships of various island nations as a member of a mysterious agency. And because it’s a video game series, this overthrowing of dictatorships inevitably involves a lot of weaponry and explosions. (There’s even a “Chaos meter” to show how much mayhem you’ve caused.) Here’s a trailer of the latest game in the series, Just Cause 3, to get you up to speed:
It’s pretty easy to see how Just Cause could be translated into a big-budget summer blockbuster, and Square Enix agrees. Along with Momoa, the film is being directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas) with a screenplay by John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). It’s worth noting that this will be the second time Momoa and Peyton have worked together, after first joining forces on the Netflix series Frontier.
Just Cause will be distributed by 20th Century Fox and currently does not have a release date.
