Neo – ‘The Matrix’ series (1999, 2003)
Before there was John Wick, there was Neo. Reeves starred as the main character in the groundbreaking first Matrix film (1999) as well as its two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), playing the reluctant warrior and savior of all humanity. Yeah, that’s not too much to have resting on your shoulders. All three films have fantastic action sequences and helped popularize the “bullet time” feature with slow-motion action and plenty of gunplay. Reeves prepared for the film by doing months and months of martial arts training and tactical gun work.
As important as The Matrix was to Reeves’s career and to the film industry in general, it also linked up Reeves with Chad Stahelski, who was his stunt double on the film. Years later Stahelski and Reeves would collaborate again—this time with Stahelski behind the camera for John Wick.
