Folklore and Oddities Display
Skuy cast a wide net when gathering his collection and went great lengths to gather items such as earwax from a mule, a naturally sterile animal. In hopes of warding off conception, women in the Middle Ages wore amulets full of a mule’s earwax and strapped the bones from weasel testicles around their inner thighs. One last oddity in Skuy’s collection that’s worth noting: dried beaver testicles used in an alcoholic elixir concocted by women in New Brunswick, Canada.
