After narrowly escaping the hellish weather of Winter Storm Nemo in New York, we arrived in sunny Miami, Florida the afternoon Nemo slammed NYC. We were all on a production assignment in South Beach for the annual Dirty Dutch Model Beach Volleyball Tournament that weekend, but wanted to get a workout or two in the books. (Especially something readers would enjoy and could try themselves.)
With a 4AM wake up call from the hotel’s front desk, our team met in the lobby and ventured over to the Reebok CrossFit Miami Beach to meet up with the owner and CrossFit competitor, Nathan Forster. After going through a warm-up routine and getting the run down of the actual workout from Nathan everyone was eager to get started.
* Complete as many rounds in 15-minutes.
> Deadlift, 135 lbs. for 5 reps
> Strict Pull Up, 5 reps
> Push Press, 135lbs. for 5 reps
> Toes-to-Bar, 5 reps
Justin Klein, a Florida-based CSCS certified trainer was another athlete with zero CrossFit experience. Justin was into physique competitions, however has now transitioned more heavily into adventure races and triathalons.
Jay Zuccato, a CanFitPro certified trainer in Canada was our young-buck and least experienced. Jay was a former heavy-fella who chopped off the pounds and got ripped. Never CrossFit before, and most of his training was for physique and modeling.
Adam Von Rothfelder, a CSCS certified trainer, a former professional MMA fighter and owner of Drench Fitness boutique in Milwaukee was probably the most prepared for the CrossFit assault as he’s a walking dictionary of exercise movement patterns, kettlebells, TRX and more.
Mike Simone, associate editor with MensFitness.com has “dabbled” in CrossFit before, but worked with Nathan Forster to coordinate the production of this workout.
