Outdoor retailer REI has partnered with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to host new specialized outdoor fitness classes. REI and ACE are offering three series tailored to 5-10k races, mountain climbing, and backpacking at REI stores across the country.

"Each series has it's own specific training, but will include functional movements such as squats, planks, and hip hinges as well as load training with kettlebells and resistance bands," says Summer Leeper, REI Outdoor Programs marketing manager. "The focus is on learning what are the muscles that need to be strengthened and being able to strengthen them."

The classes begin in March and will meet once a week for seven weeks. The cost is $120 for REI members and $150 for non-members. Each series is limited to 12 participants and will be taught by two ACE-certified instructors. Programs start with a fitness test to establish personalized goals and the training is customized for each participant. More details are available at rei.com/learn.
