You may remember him from his B2K days or maybe his role as a dancer in the movie You Got Served, but Omarion is resurfacing with a whole new image. His latest album, Sex Playlist, drops in September, and he let us in on the motivation behind the music and how he manages to stay at the top of his fitness game as he turns the big 3-0.
Here’s what he had to say.
Okay, first things first. Why Sex Playlist?
Well, truthfully, if you’re old enough to have a sex playlist, you have a sex playlist. You might not call it a sex playlist but you definitely have those go-to songs that you play when you want to get in the mood—especially if you’re a gentleman. You don’t want to just rush into it.
Sex Playlist really comes from this idea that if you do have a sex playlist, it’s probably jaded. It’s probably all old songs. I really want people to feel something [when they listen to this album]. That’s really what a sex playlist is all about. It’s not just sex, it’s the most intimate you can be with a person.
What are you most excited about for the album?
I personally feel like certain topics and certain issues aren’t really being conveyed the right way in music nowadays. It’s all very direct and to the point without leaving anything to the imagination. I just want to inspire people to be different. I’ll be 30 this year, and I just feel like my music is better than it’s ever been and I feel like it’s because I’ve been able to live life. It’s because I can take all of my experiences and I can see the importance of having a lusty night, but then realize what is most important is probably meeting the right person, someone you can spend the rest of your life with. Truthfully, I think that that’s not spoken about enough. Everything is about breaking up and turning up. I really just want to bring the love back in the room. And call it cliché, but love is a beautiful thing.
Speaking of settling down, we hear you’ve got a baby on the way?
Yes! It’s a boy. We are having a young king. You know, we’ve got to keep the kingdom going.
Really quick, you seem like you’re on point with your fitness. What does your diet and workout regimen look like?
Diet is surprisingly the most important thing about being fit. Great eating habits are going to keep your six-pack and also keep you healthy and living longer. I try to have five meals per day, with a few healthy snacks in between. I always try to have some greens in there, too—I love broccoli. That stuff will flush you out! I work out at least three to five days a week, mostly running and heavy weights.
