Adkins has served as the right-hand man to Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Jean Vilain in The Expendables 2, kicked multi-dimensional ass in Doctor Strange, and starred as the ultra-shredded Yuri Boyka in Boyka: Undisputed, the sequel to Undisputed III: Redemption.
And Adkins has plenty more on the horizon.
The British actor has a key role in 2017’s American Assassin, starring as a CIA black ops team member alongside Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien). He’ll also star alongside some martial arts legends—Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais and Tiger Chen—in the upcoming action-thriller Triple Threat.
He’s been training in various forms of martial arts since he was a teenager. He’s well-versed in karate, judo, kickboxing, jujutsu, Krav Maga, and ninjutsu. So it almost goes without saying, then, that Adkins is the type of star who never needs a stuntman.
He still hits the gym, of course. “I’m a bit old-school, to be honest,” Adkins told Men’s Fitness in 2016. “I like volume training, simple weight training. I mean, who doesn’t like the bench press? I always make sure to go in the gym and train intensely. We’re in there five or six days per week, and I train hard. I put a lot into it. I make sure that I work myself all the way. That’s what you’ve got to do.”
Here’s a look at how Adkins trained for his most recent roles.
