Drinking on a weeknight calls for a beverage that’s lower in alcohol content, right? Turns out, people who choose libations with lower ABV end up imbibing more than folks who go with a stronger brew, according to researchers at the University of Cambridge in England.
They served beer and wine labeled as either superlow, low, or regular alcohol. Those who went low or superlow ended up consuming as much as 20 percent more alcohol than the regular-strength folks, probably because they thought their “healthy” choice meant they could drink more.
Avoid this pub pitfall and order what you want, regardless of ABV. It’s more satisfying, and it can cue you to drink less.
