Have you ever gotten out bed at 2 AM and made your way to the freezer to help yourself to some ice cream in the dark? Has your fiancée ever caught you in the act and asked, “What the hell are you doing”?
For real estate agent Alberto Diaz, this was a humiliating reality. At 5’7″ and 240 lbs., Alberto admits to eating “anything and everything” he could and, even worse, he constantly smoked cigarettes and snored heavily.
His “prime years of high school football and baseball” were long gone, as was his physique. But moving to Arizona from California sparked him to make some positive changes in his life, and he felt that his body should reflect the way he felt. The Grand Canyon State was a fresh start for Alberto, and with the help of his fiancée, Nuvia, he started on a journey to a healthier lifestyle.
“I woke up one day, looked in the mirror and I had a big ol’ gut. I couldn’t see my feet and at the time I was only 30. I looked like I was 43.” Alberto began looking at his old football pictures, which eventually led to slow jogs and family hikes. He began to notice a gradual decrease in a size; he headed to a local gym and set some goals.
“Nuvia is the brains behind this. She cooks my meals and reads up on pretty much everything.” She passed her fitness knowledge to Alberto about nutrition and how the body works. Alberto is now working out six days a week, and banging out 45 minutes of cardio before he hits the weights. He uses each day to focus on a particular body part. His diet now consists of fresh vegetables, salads, baked chicken and salmon. Protein shakes before and after workouts keep him going day in and day out.
As a reward for all their hard work and efforts, Diaz and his wife booked a trip to Hawaii. About 75 pounds lighter, Alberto hasn’t smoked a cigarette in seven months and is now snore free. They both pass their newfound healthy and fit lifestyle on to their children hoping that they will understand that anything is possible and you’re the only person holding yourself back—you just have to make it happen!
