According to a statement by the American Heart Association, owning a dog may reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. “The data we analyzed show a direct relationship between pet owner-ship and decreased cardiovascular risk,” says Glenn N. Levine, M.D., chair of the group that put out the statement. Owning a dog can also decrease your risk of high blood pressure and cholesterol, and improve your mood.
