Silicon-Based Lubes
Silicon-based lubes are a popular choice because they last a long time and can be used with condoms and sex toys that aren’t made with silicone. If both the sex toy is 100 percent medical-grade silicone and the lube is also medical-grade silicone, you should be okay (whereas if something is made of only partially or lower-grade silicon, silicon lubes can break it down.) These kinds of lubes work well with PVC, glass, acrylic, and metal, but Costa warns not to use them with CyberSkin. They don’t stain, are usually flavorless, and they are good in water because they don’t cause clogs. If you want to give silicone-based lube a go, you should be aware that it is made of chemicals and can cause irritation. “So it’s always important to test it out first before committing to a romp session,” says Costa. Silicon-based lubes such as Astroglide and K-Y are available via discreet home delivery.
