Choosing the right moisturizer is right up there with finding the perfect razor when it comes to important grooming decisions. A good match means fewer visible wrinkles, less redness, and smoother skin. Pick wrong, and you’ll be staring at a shiny forehead in the mirror for the rest of the day. In a market saturated with men’s skincare products, the choice can feel overwhelming — but it shouldn’t be. “Moisturizers don’t have to be complicated, but the ingredients are key,” Anthony Rossi, M.D., assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, says. “Look for products with ceramides, which help to restore the epidermal barrier and are great at locking in water into the skin. For facial moisturizers, look for a retinol ingredient, which helps increase the skin turnover.” How often to do it? “Moisturizing once a day is fine for normal skin,” Kathleen Welsh, M.D., founder of Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology in San Francisco, explains. “Morning is the best time, right after showering and shaving, so you can seal in the moisture.” Here are a few tips to consider.
