A Thor Vs. Hulk Gladiator Battle for the Ages Is Coming in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Who would win in a fight—Thor or The Hulk?

Come November, we’re going to find out.

After sitting out of the superhero throwdown in Captain America: Civil War, the god of Thunder is about to get his own dose of hero-on-hero fighting in the form of an angry green guy.

Story details for Thor: Ragnarokone of the 20 films we are absolutely stoked to see in 2017—have been mostly kept under wraps so far, but Marvel has started to reveal more about Thor’s third solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and it includes a gladiator battle for the ages.

“In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela,” a new official synopsis from Marvel says. “But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!”

Hemsworth appears ready for battle, though. The actor got the chance to show off how shredded he got for the film in this behind-the-scenes photo:

The description of the movie sounds a lot like an adaptation of the fan-favorite comics storyline Planet Hulk, which found the titular hero pitted against aliens and other heroes in gladiator battles on a far-flung planet in deep space. While the film may not be a direct adaptation of the story, it’s clearly going to borrow some plot points—and that’s why this should be one of the coolest films of the year.

Of course, the question remains: Who will emerge triumphant? We asked you guys:

Ragnarok won’t be the first time that Thor and the Hulk have butted heads, though. One of the most memorable scenes of The Avengers featured the superheroes battling with each other on a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, with Hulk leaving the god of Thunder with some bumps and bruises:

And, of course, there’s this bit of comic relief during the climactic Battle of New York:

Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Tahiti Wakiti, hits theaters on November 3, 2017, and stars Hemsworth along with a ridiculously stacked cast: Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins, plus an appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
