Some 20 million men in the United States have erectile dysfunction. Risk for this condition increases with age but nearly all men experience some erectile troubles at some point in their lifetime. The pervasiveness of ED, along with the fact that it affects sex, means there is are tons of treatments out there that promise an easy fix. Some do work but many don’t.
Considering the area of the body affected, diving into ED treatments can be treacherous but there is good news. “The prognosis for continued sexually activity is very good — 90 percent — as long as patients are willing to do whatever is necessary,” says Dr. Ira D. Sharlip, clinical professor of urology at UCSF and spokesperson for the American Urological Association.
