Why Cardio Is the Best Workout for Your Brain

Aerobic exercise doesn’t just fix heart tissue, it grows brain cells, too.

The Journal of Physiology reports that in an experiment in Finland conducted on rats that ran on a wheel showed the most brain-cell growth (their brains were dissected after), followed by those prodded to sprint (to simulate HIIT). Oddly, neither rats who climbed with their tails weighted (to mimic weightlifting) nor those who just sat on their little rat asses grew any new brain cells at all.
