You can bet your life that, for fans of the finest Thoroughbreds in the world, the months of May and June make March Madness look like a steaming pile of horse droppings.

Together, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness at Pimlico, and New York’s Belmont Stakes are the Super Bowl of the sport—and only 12 horses have ever won all three.

Each race is invitation-only to the world’s top 3-year-olds. And the final run at Belmont—at 1.5 miles, the longest track in the sport—makes winning it even harder: When American Pharoah won the latest Triple Crown, in 2015, he was the first horse to do it in 37 years.

Other than this trio, they’re all just horse races.
