While most Americans eat plenty of fat, Rumsey reminds us about the virtues of it, especially for those who try to avoid it. “Testosterone and other sex hormones are made from components of dietary fats, so it’s important to consume at least 15 percent of your total calories from fat,” she says. That’s at least 36 grams fat if you’re eating 2,200 calories per day — not a difficult feat if you’re regularly eating foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, oils, oily fish, meat, eggs, and full-fat dairy.
