Your Best Shot Against Depression

Physical activity doesn’t just treat depression—it can actually prevent it. A new study review found that 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise can lower your risk of ever—yes, ever—getting depressed by up to 63%. “Walking, cycling, even gardening 20–30 minutes daily can prevent the risk of developing depression in those who’ve never had it,” says review author George Mammen.

If you suspect you’re susceptible, or have a family history of depression, remember: Motivation follows action, not vice versa. Sweat first, smile later.
