Nintendo’s new Legend of Zelda film, set to release in 2027, announced a new princess cast in the role of Zelda.

English actress Bo Bragason will play the role of Zelda, one of the franchise’s two main protagonists.

Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto announced July 16, 2025 that the 21-year-old would be in the movie, which is expected to come out roughly two years later on May 7.

Miyamato made the announcement in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he also announced the actor to play Link, the other main protaganist.

“The live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda‘ movie will feature Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. I’m already looking forward to their performances,” he wrote.

Bragason’s most recent work includes playing the parts of Queen Gunhild in TV series King and Conqueror, Clara Radley in the movie The Radleys, Roxy in the Disney+ series Renegade Nell and Lyn in the TV series Moving On.

She’s also set to play the role of Oona in the upcoming TV series Sterling Point, which she’s working on currently.

Bragason stands roughly 5-feet-7-inches tall, according to her IMDb profile.

The movie is based on the classic Nintendo video game The Legend of Zelda, first released in Japan in 1986, followed shortly by its release in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System in cartridge form.

The game has been a hallmark of Nintendo’s original games ever since, along with the Mario and Donkey Kong series.

Princess Zelda and Link battle together, though not always in tandem, through the series in a fight to save the land of Hyrule. Their goal is to defeat the evil warlord Ganon, whose ultimate goal is to remake then world in his own dark image.

The game series has become legendary with more than 20 versions released since the original, the most recent of which being The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, launched in 2024.

Director of the new movie Wes Ball said the film’s budget is roughly $170 million, Game Rant reported earlier in 2025.
