Being a cast member on Saturday Night Live can propel any aspiring comedian to mainstream stardom. But if you might think you'll have a big TV star payday in your first year, you might be disappointed by the paycheck.

Former SNL star Pete Davidson is known for speaking with no filter, and in a Dec. 4 video from New York magazine, The King of Staten Island star honestly looked back on his days starting out on the show and what he was able to afford with his check. When asked about his first splurge after starting with the show, he noted that it wasn't exactly a jaw-dropping payday.

"Do you guys know what they pay us? It’s like three grand an episode, so I think I got dinner," he quipped.

Jason Sudeikis, another beloved former SNL cast member, echoed a similar sentiment about the initial paychecks not being able to stretch very far.

"I mean you don’t really make enough money to make big purchases," the Ted Lasso star said. "So, I think New York rent was probably the biggest purchase I made after writing on SNL the first year."

As SNL stars continue to put in time, however, they usually see their salaries go up starting with their second season. After leaving the iconic TV institution in 2022, Davidson has continued to make a name for himself as a solo star through projects like his series Bupkis and cameo appearances in major movies like Fast X and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Dog Man, Davidson's next voice role, hits theaters Jan. 31, 2025.
