'SNL's January Hosts Include an Award Season Favorite and a Controversial Comedian
Saturday Night Live has been on its holiday hiatus since Dec. 21 and is set to kick off 2025 with a bang. The long-running sketch comedy series, now in its landmark 50th season, just announced who will be coming to Studio 8H to host the show and perform as a musical guest in January.
On Jan. 18, controversial comedian Dave Chappelle will be returning to the SNL stage for his fourth hosting gig with the show, having stepped into the big shoes in 2016, 2020, and 2022. On top of that, Memphis-bred rapper GloRilla, who released her debut album Glorious in October, will be performing on the episode as musical guest.
The following week is set to be an exciting episode as Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet will be pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. It marks the third time the Wonka star will be hosting the show. It also inaugurates Chalamet into an exclusive club of celebrities that have juggled hosting and performing duties on the show over the past five decades; in recent years, that's included stars like Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles, and Bad Bunny.
Chalamet plays iconic folk singer Bob Dylan in the new biopic A Complete Unknown, which has been surrounded by Oscar buzz in the weeks since its release over the holidays. It's safe to assume that he'll be singing some Dylan classics, as he did himself live in the movie, when he takes the stage to perform on Jan. 25.
Chappelle's latest special The Dreamer, meanwhile, is nominated for best comedy album at the Grammy Awards, while GloRilla has received two Grammy noms for her single "Yeah Glo!" Chappelle's 2020 hosting gig ended up winning him an Emmy Award.
