# 5 Things More Likely Than Having a Perfect March Madness Bracket

With Selection Sunday right around the corner, everyone is getting in on the madness. College basketball is one of the most bet-on sporting events, raking in an estimated \$12 billion dollars in bets last year, according to Forbes. And we’re betting you have more than just bragging rights riding on your bracket.

But whether you root for the number one seed or the underdog, your odds of picking the perfect March Madness Bracket are pretty low. By pretty low, we mean really low. In fact, according to a DePaul University news release, calculated by math Professor Jeff Bergen, your odds are one in 9.2 quintillion (yes, quintillion and no, we didn’t really think that was a number either.)

There is hope (well, kinda.) If you know basketball really, really well your chances do go up. “Suppose you know that a one seed has never lost to a 16 seed in the men’s tournament, that would help improve your odds. With additional knowledge of basketball and the history of the tournament, the odds of picking a perfect bracket would be approximately one in 128 billion,” Professor Bergen explains in a video.

One in 128 billion are still pretty low odds, but hey, it’s all in the fun of the game right? So we broke down 5 unlikely things that are still more likely than picking the perfect bracket.

1) Becoming A Professional Basketball Player

Well if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. According to CBS News, the chances of coming out of high school and going pro right away are one in 10,000. 1 in 75 senior basketball players in college get drafted by the NBA  (not too shabby, actually). So, maybe instead of betting on the tournament, you should invest in a new pair of Jordan’s, and go out and hit the court.

2) Winning the Powerball Jackpot

The chances of winning the Powerball jackpot, according to CNN Money, are one in 175 million. That’s still higher than your chances of picking the perfect bracket even if you have the tournament insight.

3) Dating a Super Model

Hoping to date a super model in the near future? Well, the chances of dating a supermodel, according to ABC, are one in 880,000. Looking at those bracket odds makes walking arm-in-arm with a model seem somewhat likely. And if you want to get a sexy six-pack before asking your leading lady on a date (hey, just a suggestion) here’s, 5 Exercises to Work Your Abs to Exhaustion.

4) Getting Struck By Lightning

According to National Geographic, the odds of getting struck by lightening in your lifetime is one in 3,000.

5) Shooting a Hole-In-One

The odds of an amateur golfer hitting a hole-in-one on a par 3 golf course, according to USA Today, are one in 12,500. If you’re a pro, your odds are still pretty low, but increase to one in 7,500. Either way, practice makes perfect so check out these Top Pro Tips You Need to Improve Your Golf Game.
