Neymar Jr. looks to bring glory and clean water to Brazil with Waves for Water and PayPal.
The sensational 22-year-old Brazilian Neymar Jr. will star in front of the home crowd as one of the host nation’s top scoring threats. He’ll look to help bring home World Cup victory for Brazil for the first time since 2002, but that isn’t all he hopes to accomplish over the next month.
Young as he is, Neymar Jr. has established himself as a big-name forward for FC Barcelona and already has a history of generous charitable work—supporting Waves for Water through his Neymar Jr. Project Institute, among other projects and causes. Waves for Water is a non-governmental organization that raises money to provide needy communities with clean water filters. Right now, they’re campaigning to raise money to bring clean water to thousands of people in poor areas of Brazil (of course, the juxtaposition of the vast expenses of hosting a World Cup with many of Brazil’s citizens’ lack of basic necessities is troubling to say the least, but that’s another story).
As for what’s being done to help, Neymar Jr. has signed an array of soccer gear that will be available through an exclusive eBay auction between now and June 22, with all proceeds going to Waves of Water. PayPal is also contributing to the cause, urging people to make donations through their site, while also pledging to donate $3 for every customer who orders ahead from an Eat24 restaurant using the PayPal app. So, use your next cheat day to get some delivery and keep in mind that a $50 donation gives as many as 100 people up to five years of water access, according to Waves for Water.
“Through this campaign I hope we can touch people’s lives in a meaningful way and raise enough funds to bring safe, clean water to communities in need across my beloved Brazil,” Neymar Jr. said in a press release. We wish him the best of luck on the pitch and in his charitable endeavors this summer!
