Rugby star Carlin Isles is ready for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
In this training video produced by Red Bull—debuting exclusively on Men’s Fitness—Isles shows off his extensive workout regimen as he prepares to compete in rugby sevens for the United States in Rio. Isles—who is known as the “Fastest Man in Rugby”—is expected to be part of the U.S. team when the final roster selections are made later in the summer.
Isles brings blazing speed and some ridiculous athleticism to the sport. With an almost superhuman combination of speed, agility, and strength, Isles could be the key to bringing home the gold for the United States in Brazil, where rugby will make its Olympic return—in the pared-down “sevens” form of the game, rather than traditional rugby—after its hiatus since 1924.
Rugby’s popularity in America waned since then, but it does have a tradition of Olympic rugby greatness—the U.S. brought home the gold medal back in 1924. Isles is hoping to do the same this time around, and that’s why he is training so hard for Rio.

The journey to Rio 2016 has been a an interesting one for Isles, who previously tried to make the U.S. Track & Field team for the 2012 London Olympics. After missing out on those Olympic Games, Isles put his efforts into rugby, making his debut with the US national sevens team in October of 2012.
Isles spent time with the Gentlemen of Aspen RFC club in 2013, and the Glasgow Warriors in 2014—although he later later left the club to focus on making the USA Sevens team for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Isles is not taking any chances when it comes to his training.
The 26-year-old said that he is doing more weight and cardio workouts than he ever has in his life, and that he is pushing himself to the limit. Nutrition-wise, a typical day for Isles includes two breakfast meals, multiple smoothies, a high amount of protein as well as fruits, vegetables, and carbs.
Isles said that he is taking “nothing for granted” as he trains, and that his secret to being the fastest man in rugby is “knowledge.”
“If you don’t know how to run fast, you’ll never run fast. Remember that.”
Isles is hoping everyone will remember his name once the Olympics arrive.
