Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz really aren’t fans of each other.
Even though the two won’t fight until Saturday at UFC 202, the battle started early at the fighters’ pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas Wednesday night. When McGregor arrived nearly an hour late, Diaz and the rambunctious Irish fighter started exchanging words—and things went downhill from there.
Diaz flipped off McGregor with a middle finger as the two started jawing with each other, with Diaz saying: “Hey, f— your whole team, how about that?”
McGregor couldn’t help but respond, shouting back: “F— your whole team. You’ll do nothing. Shut your f—ing mouth. You’ll do nothing. You’ll do f—ing nothing. Not one of you will do nothing. Get the f— out of here.”
That’s when things really started to escalate. Diaz threw a water bottle towards the stage at McGregor, which prompted the UFC featherweight champion to chuck more water bottles in Diaz’s direction. Security jumped in to break things up, UFC President Dana White decided put an end to the presser.
McGregor blamed “traffic” for his lateness, albeit with a characteristic bit of self-promotion: “The Vegas traffic is heavy this time of the day,” McGregor, said, according to ABC News. “There must be a McGregor show going on, because the place is packed out.”
The rematch comes after McGregor’s long-simmering public feud with UFC brass, in which McGregor “retired” from the sport before calling his own bluff and admitting it was a publicity move. He even said he’d be fighting at UFC 200, until UFC scrapped the fight in favor of a Jon Jones–Daniel Cormier matchup and ultimately set the Diaz-McGregor rematch for UFC 202. Diaz and McGregor previously faced off at UFC 196 in March, which Diaz—who had just 11 days to prepare for the fight—won by submission in the second round.
There should be no love lost between these two when they battle at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. They’ll probably save their breath for the fight—but they’ll be throwing punches, not water bottles.
