Exclusive Video: Mike Tyson Reveals His Typical Boxing Training Regimen

Boxing legend Mike Tyson retired from the ring in 2005, but the fighter remains ever the entertainer. This time, in a different arena: onstage and on page. Tyson recently debuted the film version of his hit one-man Broadway show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, on HBO. The inspiring movie, helmed by famed filmmaker Spike Lee, is currently playing on HBO and HBO On Demand (and will be available on HBO GO on December 11). Tyson’s also penned an autobiography—also titled Undisputed Truth—that’s sure to be a popular stocking stuffer this holiday.

Mike stopped by the Men’s Fitness offices to discuss his new movie and memoir, but also revealed his strong work ethic during workouts. At the prime of his boxing career, Tyson says he never believed in time-crunch training. Instead, his prep was an “all-day” effort that including a 4-mile run, a 10-mile walk, 2,500 situps, and a nine-round sparring session. “Me and my friends would gamble, and instead of gambling for money, we gambled for pushups,” he says.

While he’s no longer a fighter, Mike has reinvented himself as an entertainer. And while he’s demonstrated a strong comedic timing with his Hangover cameos, he’s proven to still be in fighting shape—as evidenced by his bulging biceps on the Broadway stage. “As far as being an entertainer, you should look the part of an entertainer,” Tyson insists.
