Donald Trump hasn’t been playing as much golf as he used to. Six weekends ago he teed up his 15th and 16th rounds as president, then his pace slacked off slightly as his presidency veered into deep rough. After a round at Trump National in Sterling, Virginia, on Mothers’ Day, Trump had played 21 times in 17 weeks as president. That put him on pace to play 258 times in his first term. That’s a far faster clip than Barack Obama, who played 333 times in two full terms as president. Trump, of course, ripped Obama for playing too much golf while in office.

The golf drought continues: Setting out on a whirlwind tour of the Middle East and Italy last Friday, the president skipped Dubai, where he has a course. That means he may not play golf until the end of May — six weeks from the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey, where you can count on seeing protests.

His courses have been seeing some political action. An anti-Trump flash mob of 200 protesters formed a message — RESIST! — at Trump National Los Angeles on May 14.

It’s going to be an interesting summer for Trump’s golf empire.

Kevin Cook’s book Electric October, on the epic 1947 World Series, will be published this summer.
