Don’t fear a season in the minors
Before opening your wallet, I’d recommend just playing along for fun the first couple of months. Most guys need at least that much time to get comfortable with DFS, which is more cutthroat and complex than your typical “buddies, beers, and bets” setup. FanDuel and DraftKings are the two DFS giants, with about 90% of the market. I’d say DraftKings has the edge because it lists players’ salaries in smaller dollar increments, which gives you more flexibility as you compile your ideal fantasy team.
If you’re a real football newbie, I’d try a lesser-known site that offers lower winnings. “Because [these smaller sites] don’t offer huge payouts, they don’t attract the sharks that gobble up the minnows, like on major sites,” explains C.D. Carter, author of How to Think Like a Daily Fantasy Football Winner. Carter recommends StarsDraft (starsdraft.com).Back to top
