5. Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers – 10:30 p.m. ET on TNT
Fit player to watch: Jimmy Butler (Timberwolves) – In his first season in Minnesota following a trade from the Chicago Bulls, Butler is making a big impact on young stars like Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. While Butler’s scoring is down overall, he has the Wolves fourth in the Western Conference after missing the playoffs last season, and he’s averaging a career-best 1.9 steals per game. This summer, Butler used jump squats, med ball workouts, kettlebell workouts, stepups, and cable machine workouts to stay in shape. Clearly, it’s been paying off for the Wolves.
The Lakers are playing for the 19th straight time on Christmas Day, and they’re currently tied with the Knicks with the most wins on the holiday, with 22. The Lakers will need to watch out for Wiggins: The former No.1-overall pick averaged 37.8 points in four games against the Lakers last season, including dropping a career-high 47 points on Nov. 13, 2016. The telecast also features TNT’s four-person Inside the NBA team—Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal—calling the game, the first time all four have called a game together.Back to top
