5. Milwaukee Bucks vs. San Antonio Spurs – Fri, Nov. 10
Player to watch: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks)
No young player in the league has been more exciting over the past two years than Antetokounmpo. (You don’t get called “The Greek Freak” for nothing, although it helps that “Greek Freak” rhymes, and that most Americans find “Antetokounmpo” virtually unpronounceable.) The NBA’s most improved player has thrust himself into the MVP conversation by leading the league in scoring with 31 points per game. In fact, Antetokounmpo leads the Bucks in scoring, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks per game—not bad for a 22-year-old. Something you’ll probably hear the commentators talk about: Back in 2003, the Spurs considered signing Jason Kidd (now the Bucks’ coach) to a deal before he re-signed with the Nets; San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich believed that Kidd could be a good option to play alongside Tony Parker, who at that time was entering just his third season. Things turned out alright in San Antonio—the team won three titles by aligning Parker with Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan instead.
The Spurs host the Bucks on Friday, November 10 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
