1. Bittersweet (adj.): Both pleasant and regretful
What’s worse than getting injured on a play? Scrambling for a touchdown, getting your knee smashed up on the play, and then having the score called back due to a holding penalty. Well, that’s exactly what happened to Eagles QB Carson Wentz yesterday.
Everything is only speculation now—torn left ACL—until more tests can be performed, but early reports aren’t good.
Prior to his departure, Wentz threw for 291 yards on 23-of-41 efficiency with a pick and four touchdowns, which gave him a franchise single-season record of 33 on the year. Nick Foles came on in relief and finished with 42 yards on 6-of-10 passing in the team’s 43-35 victory over the Rams.
It’s not the end of the world—the team will most likely still have the top spot in the NFC come playoff time—but it certainly doesn’t bode well for the Philly Phaithful, who are handling it well.
