1. The “Catch Rule” still hasn’t caught on
On the heels of a dubious call on a supposed Steelers touchdown and an inexplicable fake-spike-turned-interception in the waning seconds of the game, the Patriots (11-3) have taken the top spot in the AFC playoff picture with a 27-24 road win.
The game saw Steelers wide receiver and MVP candidate Antonio Brown leave with a calf injury (though he’s expected back for the postseason) and Tom Brady throw his first pick against Pittsburgh since 2005. And with his nine grabs for 168 yards, NE tight end Rob Gronkowski became one of three tight ends in NFL history with four 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
The victory clinched the AFC East for the Pats, who now have won the thing for an NFL-record nine consecutive seasons.Back to top
