Brandin Cooks isn’t just fast—he’s fast.
The former New Orleans Saints wide receiver burnt up the gridiron during the 2016 season, and his fantastic footspeed was on display in Week 6.
Cooks hit a top speed of 21.89 mph while scoring an 87-yard touchdown in the Saints’ win over the Carolina Panthers, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

As impressive as that play was, it wasn’t even the fastest—or longest—touchdown that Cooks has scored this season. The former Oregon State product hit an NFL-best 22.13 mph back in Week 1 on a 98-yard touchdown reception against the Oakland Raiders.
Cooks set a league record with his latest score, making him first player in NFL history to score touchdowns of 85 yards or longer over his team’s first five games of the season.

Cooks put up a scintillating 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine before he was drafted—the fastest of anyone that year—and he has continued to burn cornerbacks since coming into the NFL.
“I turn it into a track meet,” Cooks told The New Orleans Times-Picayune. “It feels like you get the baton handed off to you and you just run. On the track, you’re not looking around, you’re just going. So, that’s what I feel like is my vision.”
Cooks, who was part of a stellar draft class that included fellow speedsters like Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, and John Brown, has given the Saints a legitimate number-one wideout threat. Cooks allows quarterback Drew Brees to play some pickup-style football each week: a quick “go” route and a long pass are all it takes to make six points happen in a flash.
