The Color Rush Returns
The Color Rush is back—and this time, there won’t be any issues for colorblind football fans.
Nike showed off their 2016 slate of monochromatic uniforms for each of the 32 teams in the NFL, which will be worn for Thursday Night Football games throughout the season.
The flashy alternate unis debuted pretty good reviews last year—until the Buffalo Bills (wearing all red) and New York Jets (wearing all green) faced off. As people soon discovered, the teams were virtually indistinguishable for fans with red-green colorblindness. (Check out a simulation of what it looked like.)
So the Shield and the Swoosh learned from last year’s mixup and designed all-white uniforms for teams to wear when there would be a conflict for those color-impaired viewers. The first Thursday night game of the season is—fittingly—the Bills and Jets, but this time around New York will wear white jerseys, while Buffalo will be in red. (It’ll also come in handy when the Atlanta Falcons visit their NFC South rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on November 3, since both of their Color Rush jerseys are bright red.)
