42 (2013)
Arguably the most important baseball player of all time — so much so that he is universally recognized by the number he wore — 42 follows the life of Jackie Robinson, the man responsible for breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier. Maybe a matter of context over content, it's a story that must be told, though it could be argued the film's take on the events that shaped Robinson's hall-of-fame career have been watered down. Still, 42 excels at portraying the man and his extraordinary legacy, and, in a testament to his importance to the game, the film earned $27.3 million dollars its opening weekend — the best premiere for a baseball movie ever.
