Bull Durham (1988)
The late '80s were a boon to the baseball movie franchise, and if you haven't guessed it by now, Kevin Costner led the way. Released one year prior to Field of Dreams, Bull Durham tops many people's list as the best baseball movie of all time because of its authenticity to the game. Baseball is but a sidepiece, as the film — written and directed by former minor league baseball player Ron Shelton — explores the relationship between a veteran catcher (Costner), his seasonal lover (Susan Sarandon), and the wild-throwing young pitcher he's tasked with mentoring (Tim Robbins). An all-star cast offer up career performances in this classic.
