The Natural (1984)
It doesn't get much sappier than The Natural, but damnit if we all don't want to be Robert Redford smashing a game-winning home run into the lights in a film based off Bernard Malamud's 1952 classic novel. It probably has the strongest cast among baseball movies, with Barry Levinson, Robert Duvall, and Glenn Close joining Redford, who is cast as ballplayer Roy Hobbs. But the real star of The Natural is "Wonderboy," Hobbs' trusty homemade bat that helps him ascend the baseball ranks from country bumpkin to big-city hero. Like nachos, it's cheesy and delicious.
