15. Luis Suárez Shows His Teeth at World Cup 2014
There were construction delays and protests and battles over things like allowing the sale of alcohol in stadiums, and of course, a long line of controversies involving refereeing during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In many ways, this was no different than other FIFA functions. But no single event, including the disappointing showing of the host nation on the field, left its mark on the sports universe quite like the bite marks Uruguay defender Luis Suárez left on the shoulder of Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini. Suárez has a history of biting opponents and he was banned from the sport for four months after chomping his latest victim on soccer’s biggest stage. Oh, Germany ended up winning.
