John Urschel
Urschel has spent each of his three NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. As a member of the Baltimore offensive line, he has appeared in 40 games through three seasons, starting in 13 of them.
Off the field: Of the whole list, Urschel is the nerdiest (though we wouldn’t say that to his face). He earned a degree in mathematics in May 2012 with a 4.0 GPA, and one year later earned his master’s, again achieving a 4.0 GPA.
“I’ve loved doing math ever since I was a little kid,” Urschel says. “It wasn’t until college, though, that I realized how deep my passion was. Math challenged me like nothing else. It invited me to explore the unknown and to answer questions that no one ever had been able to.”
Since making his way to the NFL, Urschel has decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT. At the age of 25, he has already published six peer-reviewed papers on mathematics.
