4. Joe Greene, Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s all in the name.
“Mean” Joe Greene was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the NFL during his career—he won defensive player of the year twice and was the foundation of the “Steel Curtain” defense that won four Super Bowl titles. Many people remember Greene and his beaming smile from his famous Coca-Cola commercial from the 1980 Super Bowl, which brilliantly played off his ferocious reputation—but the 6’4″, 275-pound defender had few friends when it came to the gridiron. The defensive star had great athletic ability, showcased on this interception of Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton in the Super Bowl. Greene finished his career with 10 Pro Bowl appearances and five All-Pro team votes.
