Will Ferrell Takes the Field for Charity

Will Ferrell Takes the Field for Charity

Tune into spring training yesterday? If you didn’t, there was an unlikely-yet-familiar face among the pro ballers. Will Ferrell took to the field for 10 different baseball teams, suiting up for positions including, well, all of them. Why? The comedian teamed up with Funny or Die, in partnership with Major League Baseball, to create an HBO special (airing later this year) that will raise money for charity.

According to MLB.com, Commissioner Rob Manfred is all about the funny guy hitting the fields and giving back: “Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball—among our clubs, players and our millions of fans—are big fans of his. Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause,” he said.

Ferrell hit the fields for five games, switching out to play for every team; he donned their uniforms, too, of course. And according to Cut4, Ferrell’s gear is being auctioned off, and that money will also be donated.

Clearly, the comedian is taking his short professional baseball career very seriously:
