Roger Dubuis: Excalibur Automatic Skeleton Carbon
Roger Dubuis’s new version of the Excalibur Automatic Skeleton is powered by a first-ever skeletonized movement with automatic winding. The original model was housed in an 18-karat rose gold case, but this one features a case made of a high-tech composite called carbon fiber sheet moulding compound (SMC). It’s a lightweight material prized in the aerospace industry that produces a rugged look. Like all of the brand’s skeleton calibers, the watch’s movement, Caliber RD820SQ, is designed from scratch and incorporates the star motif. The movement’s automatic winding system is driven by a micro-rotor, which delivers winding power equivalent to that of a larger central winding rotor despite its open structure. Like all watches from Roger Dubuis, this one also features the Geneva-quality hallmark. [$58,400]
