Try It: Infrared Saunas
What it is: A skin-warming treatment that gives you a glow similar to tanning.
How it works: Infrared light emits longer wavelengths than sunlight (while UV light uses shorter wavelengths). The infrared rays penetrate deeply into your skin and are absorbed as radiant heat, leaving you with a feeling of having been outside in the sun, but without any UV exposure.
Bottom line: You’re not getting a tan with this treatment, but you will see that “rosy” look in your face, as if you’ve been out for a jog. Ignore additional claims of wrinkle-erasing, fat-burning, and acne-proofing — none of that has been scientifically proven. But for a nice glow, go for it.Back to top
