6. Mind the neckline
The last tool you need is an electric trimmer, like this one from Panasonic. On one hand, it helps you maintain a uniform length, but it’s going to come in handy every few days as you clean up your neckline. And lots of guys get this wrong: They shave much of the hair on the underside of their chins, or in front of their jawlines, and suddenly the beard is laughable and detracting. Here’s how to do it right: Take the guard off the trimmer, then imagine a U-shaped line that starts and end behind the ears. The bottom of this U is a point above the Adam’s apple, roughly the height of your pointer and middle finger (or 1.5″). Envision this line, then shave everything underneath the line, and leave everything above it. No ifs, ands, or buts. Do this once or twice a week, and you’ll never have a neck beard or a half-beard again.
