A: Image is easy to establish but very tough to change. Young people in particular face challenges when starting a new job. First of all, find out who the movers and shakers are and hang out with them. Look for individuals who are sharp, politically astute, and have a strong work ethic. Seek out credible mentors and plant yourself next to them.
Also, be aware of those who try to pull you into their group or clique on your first day on the job. Affiliate with winners and you’ll be seen as a winner. Ultimately, what we do defines who we are. Demonstrate your value through actions and affiliations and you’ll create a new, powerful office image as a valuable resource that deserves respect, and not a worthless slacker.
