Altru Apparel has branched out to the button-up business without forgetting its T-shirt roots. The Los Angeles-based company, which found an audience with cotton celebrations of the everlasting appeal of young Henry Winkler and bears playing with kegs, has adorned its new collared-shirt line with embroidered patterns designed to inject a bit of summer cheer into winter outfits. Corduroy shirts in blue and maroon are adorned with surfboards and ship anchors; flannels are covered in Magritte-style pipes and antlers; a white twill number is crossed by a hail of arrows. The shirts, well made and tailored for a tight fit, look great with jeans and khakis, but better peeking out playfully from beneath a dark coat. They serve as a surprising reminder that summer can be endless and that we don’t have to follow the season into darkness. [Shirts from $88; altruapparel.com]
