For 15 years now, the absurdly cool New York-based retailer Opening Ceremony has been working with some of the biggest brands in clothing, making subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) tweaks and additions to clothes from Pendleton, Levi’s, Timberland, Vans, Coach, and beyond. And on Thursday, the outdoor gear brand Columbia got added to that venerable list.
“When we think about collaborating with brands, we always want to work with those who make the pinnacle versions of our favorite pieces,” said Humberto Leon, who runs the retailer alongside his business partner Carol Lim, in a statement to Men’s Journal. “This season we wanted to work with a true heritage American outerwear brand, and of course Columbia was our top pick.”
Their partnership turns up the visual volume on some of Columbia’s best designs, like the bright red and fuschia colors applied to its reversible fleece jackets, or the spirited graphics that line a 3-in-1 parka pulled straight from the Columbia archives.
“We wanted to celebrate the Whirlibird, which is this great 80’s ski and snowboarding jacket that we covered in OC prints,” Leon said. “We also reworked iconic materials like their signature fleece, which you can see on [the logo hoodie].”
The pieces ranges in price from $65 for a reversible ankle gaiter to $995 for Columbia’s Outdry Extreme Heatzone Parka, easily the most technically advanced item the company makes. The update there? The oversized logos printed on each arm are reflective, meaning in the dead of night, it’ll keep you safe and warm.
