There are plenty of ways to pack for an island escape depending on the trip you have in mind. Enthusiasts, like avid golfers and divers, tend to pack heavy, checking clubs and gear, along with bags. If you’re headed for a high-end stay or formal event, you may need to pack dressy, requiring a suitcase as well.
But one thing the islands offer more than anything is an opportunity to get away from it all. Not just work and weather, but the weight. Of everything. Islands, no matter which you choose, are inherently casual. You can get away with minimal clothing and still enjoy all they have to offer, even dining out. If the goal is to take in the beach and sun, to eat, drink and find some adventure, everything you need can fit in a carry-on and be worn on the plane.
One thing to consider when traveling light: you can buy a lot of what you need. You’re not going to the moon. It’s an island, but it’s still civilization. The money you save on bag fees will cover lotions and sundries (that won’t fit in a 3.4-oz bottle).
So get your passport and tickets together—along with some underwear, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Everything else you’ll need for a fun, lightweight trip is right here.
