Gillette Mo’ Bro: Danny Amendola

Gillette Mo’ Bro: Danny Amendola

Look out Mo’ Bros! New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is looking to make an impact with his Mo’ this Movember. Amendola is growing a mustache as part of the Gillette Movember squad to raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. The five-year NFL veteran caught up with Men’s Fitness about his Mo’, training, his charity, and more.

Ask Men’s Fitness: How Can I Beat Razor Burn? >>>

MF: How did you get involved with Movember?
DA: Movember is a fund-raiser Gillette is doing to raise awareness for prostate cancer. Gillette prides itself with precision shaving equipment which directly correlates to football by playing precision football on the field and winning games. It’s for a good cause and it’s fun because you get to grow a sweet mustache, too.

MF: What are you expecting your mustache to look like?
DA: I’m interested to find out because I haven’t grown one for so long. We’ll see how it turns out. I’m just going to let it roll and whatever style it forms hopefully it’ll be a decent one.

MF: Do you plan on shaving it?
DA: We’ll see. I know I’m not going to wear a mustache year-round, but it’ll be fun to do in the meantime.

MF: Are you going to use an electric or disposable razor?
DA: The Fusion ProGlide Styler is my weapon of choice and works with precision which is what everyone is going for. That’s really all I use and that’s the only thing I want to use. Gillette makes products for sensitive skin and makes it all come off nicely. I have sensitive skin so Gillette products provide a smooth shaving surface and do a good job.

MF: How often do you work out?
DA: I lift weights for an hour after practice four days a week and it’s split up by body part. During the season, it’s a little lighter work in preparation for Sunday’s game but in the off-season it’s more high-intensity.

MF: What has your experience playing with Tom Brady been like?
DA: Tom is a great quarterback and it’s exciting to play with him. He’s one of the best to play the game. It’s exciting for Tom, and I know he has had a great career.

MF: Tell us about your philanthropic initiative, Catches for Kids.
DA: Catches for Kids raises money for underprivileged children and youth in inner cities. I did it in St. Louis for the past two years and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for inner-city youth. We do anything from fund-raisers to celebrity waiter nights to reading at schools. We go to Walmart with the kids, lock the doors, and have them grab as much stuff as they can. We’re excited to bring the foundation to Boston and I’m looking forward to see how many people we can help.

MF: What are your goals for 2014?
DA: In terms of football, continuing to get better and be there for my teammates and do whatever job they ask me to do. That’s really all I can ask for. In terms of training, I’d love to enhance everything that involves proper eating, training, stretching, and all the good stuff. Constant improvement is what I’m looking for.
