Do Nothing (For a While)
The birth of your mustache begins the day you cease to shave. Some experts advise skipping the shave for your entire face during the growing stage, so that the hair above your lip blends in with the stubble around your chin. “The early stages are always a little tough,” Butterworth says. “You don’t want people wondering what that strange thing is above your lips — growing a beard can prevent those questions.” Either way, know you are in for a good four to five weeks before your mustache is fully grown. (You can start shaving the beard hair again around two weeks, or as soon as the lip hair starts to resemble an actual ‘stache).
